Application Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum undergraduate 3.0 GPA (this is flexible)
  • Two letters of recommendation, ideally from a former educator or employer
  • Statement of objectives, your reasoning for earning an MFA
  • An artist’s statement relating to the work submitted in the portfolio
  • A portfolio that represents a body of work

Deadline

  • February 15 to start in the fall semester
  • Applications are accepted after February 15
  • Having at least the portfolio, statements and basic application information submitted (excluding transcripts and letters of reference) by February 15 will make the application more competitive for scholarship and graduate assistantship opportunities

Instructions

  • Apply to the MFA program in two parts, 1) the online application including your contact information, statements, transcripts, and letters of reference, and 2) the portfolio to represent your bodies of work
  • Go to The College at Brockport, SUNY website where you will find more instructions (at the bottom of the page) for creating a Login ID and PIN to access the full application
  • The College at Brockport, SUNY requires a $50 application fee
  • Submit your portfolio through submittable.com
  • If you do not have a Submittable account, you will be prompted to set up a free account

Portfolio Guidelines

  • The portfolio may include any material that best represents projects
  • You may send up to 20 images of one or several bodies of work
  • When submitting book work, please send images of multiple spreads or create a short video of turning each page of the book
  • If you make moving images, send several short digital video excerpts, no more than 20 minutes total
  • If you are a critic submitting writing samples, please send several excerpts or one long piece, no more than 20 pages total
  • All portfolio submissions must be made through submittable.com
