Exhibitions In Xanadu by Joshua Thorson
March 6 - April 8, 2017 Project Space
In Xanadu
Joshua Thorson is in the final stages of finishing a new video, In Xanadu (2017, 23 minutes), and is using his Project Space time to develop a series of images and texts for a related exhibition and book. The project is about a computerized “house of tomorrow” that existed in Florida from 1982-2005 and follows a fictional account of a day in the life of a family who live there, adapted from a text in the original “gift shop” book.
Additionally, Thorson is spending some time in the VSW Research Center and other archives in the area to research advertising and related information about the Cola Wars in the 1980s for a forthcoming video/print/text project on the subject.Joshua Thorson’s recent video works explore the intersection of technology and the nuclear family and the transformation of ideals into capital. Selected exhibitions include Rencontres Internationales (Paris/Berlin, 2012/13); Strange Attractors (2012-2013), Soloway Gallery (2010); Glass Curtain Gallery (Chicago, 2009), Documentary Fortnight at MoMA (2008), and Rotterdam International Film Festival (2006).
