Subject and Association DescriptionJoan Lyons (b. 1937) is an American artist whose work encompasses a broad range of media including archaic photographic processes, pinhole photography, offset lithography, Xerography, screen-printing, and photo-quilt making. Born in New York, Lyons studied at Alfred State University where she graduated in 1957 with a degree in ceramic art. The following year she married her fellow Alfred graduate, photographer Nathan Lyons. With her work in the 1960s, Lyons was one of the first artists to use xerography as an artistic practice. She was the founder of the Visual Studies Workshop Press in 1971.
