About this objectLeopoldo Alinari opened a photographic studio in Florence in either 1850 or 1852 with Giuseppe Bardi. The studio was known as Fratelli Alinari presso Bardi (Alinari Brothers for Bardi). Leopoldo, along with his two brothers Giuseppe and Romualdo, purchased the studio from Bardi in 1854 and formed the company Fratelli Alinari Fotografi Editori. Leopoldo acted as the photographer with Giuseppe as the organizer and Romualdo as the administrator. The studio primarily reproduced works of art and made views of Tuscany, Rome and Pisa. Leopoldo died in 1865, followed by Giuseppe in 1890 and Romualdo in 1891. Fratelli Alinari I.D.E.A was then run from 1892-1918 by Leopoldo’s son Vittorio, with assistance from Giuseppe’s son Arturo. The studio was active from 1854-1920.
