Name/TitleIllegible… Hertivigir – Radiolari
About this objectDepicted in the image is a glass skeleton radiolarian model. The Radilarian are protozoa segregated by soft anatomy into a central capsule—this separates the cell into an inner and outer portion of endoplasm and ectoplasm. The glass replica was created by Leopold (May 27, 1822 – July 3, 1895) and his son Rudolf Blaschka (June 17,1857 – May 1,1939). The father and son were from Dresden, Germany and were native to the Bohemian (Czech)–German borderland. The father and son were known for producing biological models, (glass sea creatures and their more famous successors the Glass Flowers). The Blaschka’s work is still in the American Museum of Natural History, and the Harvard Natural History Museum.
