Željka Blakšić AKA Gita Blak is an interdisciplinary artist whose early life journey from the study of music and performance, then traditional visual arts and moving image was followed by the investigation into the relationship of art and pedagogy which taught her to envision the boundary of disciplines and art forms as permeable rather than divided.  Her work often stems from the subculture of the 1990s-era in Croatia, when punk, anarcho and eco movements were having a renewal. Resistance manifested itself through the cooperation and gathering of different alternative social groups. Over the last 15 years she created numerous projects addressing critical enquiries into the notions of collective, poetic and refusal using performance, social practice, and 16mm film.

Željka Blakšić AKA Gita Blak holds an MFA from The School of Visual Arts, she presented her work at Museum of Modern Art, NY; AIR Gallery, NY; BRIC, The Kitchen, NY; Framer Framed, Amsterdam; Gallery Augusta, Helsinki; Urban Festival, Croatia; Gallery of SESI, Sao Paolo; etc. She was a recipient of the Residency Unlimited & National Endowment for the Arts Award, NY; Fondazione Pistoletto Residency, Italy; Recess Session, NY; A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship Program, NY; Paula Rhodes Award, NY; among others. Most recently she was a resident at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, UAE and Interdisciplinarity Art and Theory Program in NYC.
