    Visual Studies Workshop
    Collections Internship
    Spring 2023

    Scope of Internship:

    Visual Studies Workshop is accepting applications for Collections Internships for Spring/Summer 2023. Internships at VSW are a cumulative 72 hours over 3 months, and take place during hours of operation, Tuesday-Friday 10am – 4pm. Specific schedule will be determined based on applicants availability.

    Interns at VSW will receive training and hands-on experience working with analog film and video tools and objects, lantern slides and 35mm still image materials in an archival environment.

    Current projects include: organizing and creating an inventory of film, video and still image-related archive materials; researching history of materials in the still and moving image collections; organizing metadata; assisting with re-housing and relocation of collection objects; scanning objects and more. 

    Compensation:
    Interns will receive $500 and a voucher for VSW workshop, valued at $300. 

    Visual Studies Workshop’s mission is to support makers and interpreters of images through education, publications, exhibitions, and collections. We are an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Rochester in 1969. The collections at VSW showcase the aesthetics, cultural history, and social uses of still and moving images. Holdings encompass both creative work and vernacular objects, as well as items that represent the history of media use. All collections are open to the public by appointment.

    VSW is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 am to 6 pm.
