Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present is a non-fiction film examining the pioneering life and works of artist, musician, and educator, Tony Conrad. A great American artist of our time, Conrad’s films and compositions have playfully pushed the avant-garde in new directions, profoundly influencing artists, musicians and filmmakers since the early 1960s. Utilizing intimate footage of Conrad and his collaborators shot by the director over the last twenty-two years, as well as Tony’s own archive of recordings and films, Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present mirrors Conrad’s own playfully radical approach to art making. Directed by Tyler Hubby.
“Tony Conrad may be one of the most influential artists of our time as well as the most underground. This film achieves the impossible task of capturing the mercurial, relentless and unlikely creative journey of the artist.” – Tony Oursler, artist
“An unpretentious portrait of a singular artist. It requires no prerequisite knowledge of the subject, but it never shies away from its complex radicalism” –Matt Krefting, The WIRE
“Tony saw the world differently from others – the analytical sparkle of mathematics gave his vision substance …Ours was a never ending feast of science, music and performing …an ARTist in the truest sense.” – John Cale (Velvet Underground)
