• Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have been around for a number of years, but they burst into the broader art world conversation in 2021 when Christies sold an NFT made by the artist known as Beeple for a record breaking price. A growing number of photographic artists, both emerging and established, are now dropping NFTs onto the blockchain. We will discuss what an NFT actually is, the hope and significance of photographic NFTs, whether or not this is an evolution of photography as a digital medium, and the environmental consequences.
