Project Space Open Studios: 6-9pm

Artist Talks: 7pm

  • Visual Studies Workshop invites the community in for open studios with the February-March 2024 Project Space residents, Sophie Schwartz and Robert Doyle. Their studios will be open from 6-9pm, with a break at 7pm for short artist talks in the microcinema. The talks will also be simultaneously live-streamed on twitch.tv.

Sophie Schwartz is a Cleveland born artist living in between New Haven and New York. They use collaboration as an entry point to explore grief, memory, and queer connection. Schwartz received an MFA from Yale School of Art and a BA in Modern Culture + Media from Brown University. They were the recipient of the Richard Benson Prize and Harvey Geiger Travel Fellowship from Yale University and were selected as a finalist for the Dorothea Lange–Paul Taylor Prize, Critical Mass, and the Palm Photo Prize.

Robert Doyle is a photographer and artist who has been making images for over 50 years. born in the midwest in the early 1950’s, high school in the mid to late 60’s, some college, then some time in the military, got married, then more college, got divorced, then worked, then some grad school, then married again and a family and more work… divorced again… retired and still making pictures… i work from the journal as a point of departure. i make books and ‘zines as an archive / catalog  of my images and writing. i am curious how the mind edits   files   stores   images / memories. i am interested in ‘place’ as it creates a foundation for our reality. i am interested in the exchange/mutation/synthesis of reality and memory. i am interested in generational memory, not only passed through stories, but other, less definable modes.  Perhaps through a place, a landscape, location, image, sound, smell. i am interested in process over product.
