  • The VSW Salon, Fall 2021

The VSW Salon (formerly the VSW Film Series) is a bi-monthly engagement in the VSW microcinema featuring film screenings, artist talks, Community Curator events, performances, presentations and conversations. The Salon Series showcases the work of local and national artists, and invites them to present their work in an intimate “microcinema”  equipped to show 16mm, Super 8 and video on state of the art equipment.

In 2021, we moved our screening room to a renovated gallery adjacent to our bookstore, and outfitted it with a soundproof projection booth and new projection equipment. This new space, affectionately called the “VSW microcinema” due to its intimate capacity of 45 people, allows artists and audiences to connect more directly with the work being presented, and nurtures a conversational atmosphere for discussions and presentations. Many events in the Salon Series include an online component, such as an audio recording of the discussion and/or a virtual presentation of the work exhibited. At the conclusion of each season we publish a Salon Series Review & Calendar, a small print (and online) publication reflecting on the events of the series with reviews, images, interviews with artists, and a calendar for the upcoming season.

VSW Salon events take place the second and fourth Thursday of the month in the VSW Microcinema. Most VSW Salon events begin at 6pm with a 1 hour Open Studio with the current VSW Residents, followed by the featured event at 7 pm. All events are in-person unless otherwise indicated, with limited seating. Proof of vaccination and facemasks are required for all events.

Suggested donation for all Salon Series events is $5-10. Donations can be made by clicking the links below.
